A Howard Trade Rumor? The Nets' Lopez Has Heard It All Before

The latest rumor linking Lopez with Dwight Howard of the Lakers in a trade left him more amused than annoyed. And not for the first time. The Nets, in turn, signed Lopez to a four-year, $61 million deal. The Web site RealGM.com, citing unnamed sources, reported Tuesday that Nets General Manager Billy King planned to contact the Timberwolves about a three-team trade that would send Minnesota forward Kevin Love to Los Angeles, Lopez to Minnesota and Howard to the Nets. When the lights are on, the Nets are 9-1 with their lineup of Lopez, the NBA's highest-scoring center, perennial All-Star guards Deron Williams and Joe Johnson, and Gerald Wallace and Reggie Evans at the forward spots. Lopez-Howard rumors have been out there since December 2011, when Howard was still with the Orlando Magic. "We're grateful for the win, but hopefully we realize we need to play a little more consistently than we did tonight," said Carlesimo, who took over last month when Avery Johnson was fired.
