• Abreu plays in simulated game

Abreu is expected to do another simulated game on Sunday. Before the game, the White Sox got a scare when Abreu was hit by a pitch just above the left elbow during a simulated game on the field and went down in pain. After two weeks on the disabled list and two simulated games in their home ballpark, the Chicago White Sox have seen enough and will activate Jose Abreu on Monday for the start of a three-game series at Los Angeles against the Dodgers. White Sox manager Robin Ventura said the club decided to have Abreu participate in simulated games Saturday and Sunday in place of a rehab assignment so head athletic trainer Herm Schneider and his staff could keep a close eye on their rookie sensation. On Monday, Abreu came off the disabled list and opened the scoring with a two-run shot against Clayton Kershaw before the Dodgers rallied. One reason for his uneven gait could be that the ankle is not only wrapped, but Abreu is wearing an orthotic inside his shoe, while also hitting with an ankle guard on top of all that. His return won't come easy. Yasiel Puig struck out on a high fastball and slammed his bat in frustration, but the Dodgers got a break when third baseman Conor Gillaspie fielded Hanley Ramirez's grounder behind the bag and bounced his throw past first base as Kershaw scored.
