In their first cost-cutting move before the new league year, the New England Patriots on Friday will release safety Steve Gregory. According to agent David Canter, the Patriots are releasing safety Steve Gregory, who has started 23 regular season games for the club in the last two seasons. If Gregory doesn't get more than that elsewhere, I would say the door is still open on his return depending on what other pieces fall into place. With Gregory released, the Patriots have Devin McCourty, Adrian Wilson , Duron Harmon, Tavon Wilson, Nate Ebner, and Kanorris Davis remaining at safety. He missed tackles and blew too many coverages for the Patriots to keep him another season. He was disappointing in last year’s camp and preseason games, but was placed on IR due to an injury so his injury may have hampered him.
