    Summary of 9 articles · Updated Oct 13, 2013
Detroit Tigers starter Anibal Sanchez didn't have the easiest first inning in Saturday's Game 1 of the ALCS, but he did manage to do something baseball hasn't seen in more than 100 years. 1 Anibal Sanchez became the first pitcher in over 100 years to strike out four batters in a postseason inning Two nights after Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander took a no-hitter into the seventh inning against the Oakland Athletics, teammate Anibal Sanchez brought his no-hit stuff to Game 1 of the ALCS against the Boston Red Sox. As did Overall, Sanchez struck out his four in the first inning. Four relievers preserved the no-hitter until two outs remained in the ninth inning, at which point Boston's Daniel Nava lined a single off closer Joaquin Benoit to center, as the Tigers failed to finish the third postseason no-hitter in baseball history but held on to defeat the Red Sox 1-0 in Game 1 of the ALCS. Had Detroit's staff gone the distance, it would have been the first ever combined no-hitter in postseason history and third overall. The second strikeout came with the next at-bat, when outfielder Shane Victorino swung at a ball in the dirt, but Victorino reached base when the ball got away from catcher Alex Avila and presented the opportunity for the historic moment.
