The Astros will call up left-handed reliever Kevin Chapman from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday and designate southpaw Travis Blackley for assignment. The Astros informed reliever Travis Blackley that he’ll be designated for assignment on Friday to make room for hard-throwing lefthander Kevin Chapman to come up from Class AAA Oklahoma City. Blackley, who was acquired from Oakland via trade on April 4 after he had been designated for assignment by the Athletics, was 1-1 with a 4.89 ERA over 42 games this season. “He’s been very effective and has stuff to get big league hitters out, and we really want to put him in the bullpen,” Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said of Chapman. Chapman earned a save in his last appearance on Tuesday, throwing a scoreless inning against Colorado Springs. He’s the second reliever to earn a call up in as many days and the fourth called up from the minors since July 30. Righthander Chie-Jen Lo was promoted from Class AA Corpus Christi on July 30 along with righthander Josh Zeid, who was called up from OKC.
