Astros’ Luhnow says Houston will contact free agent Lance Berkman

Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said Friday he plans to reach out to former Houston star Lance Berkman to gauge his interest in returning to his old team. “We’re going to make a baseball decision for the organization and for the future of the Houston Astros,” Luhnow said “Clearly Lance has a great history here and he was a key part of a great franchise in a great time. Could Lance Berkman wear the Astros' new orange and blue colors next year? Berkman, 36, played the first 12 years of his career with the Astros, hitting 360 home runs with 1,200 RBIs. The 14-year veteran played for the Astros from 1999-2010 and was part of Houston’s 2005 club that fell to the Chicago White Sox in the World Series. Berkman wasn’t retained by St. Louis and is a free agent. Check out the new Astros uniforms. Houston isn’t expected to be a major player during free agency.
