• Baker will return for Reds' last series next week

    The Reds currently plan on having Baker back on the bench Monday for the final regular-season series at St. Louis. The Reds do not plan on having Baker back in the dugout until, possibly, next week's final regular-season series at St. Louis. It got so bad during a 2011 season in which Baker lost his starting job that he was pretty sure his days in Atlanta were over. While he is not yet in the dugout during Reds games, or meeting with the media, manager Dusty Baker is staying busy working behind the scenes. Baker originally left the club last week to be hospitalized for an irregular heartbeat. His absence felt especially by the players when the Reds clinched the National League Central on Saturday might bring renewed appreciation for him around the game as a whole. Bench coach Chris Speier and players said Baker was upbeat and visibly thinner. Speier will manage the three-game series against the Brewers and a three-game series in Pittsburgh over the weekend.
