• Bichette rejoins Rockies to be hitting coach

"I'm ready to roll," Bichette said Tuesday. Bichette will work under the Rockies' new manager, Walt Weiss, a former teammate with Colorado in the 1990s. Bichette was a four-time All-Star and played with Weiss in Colorado during the 1990s. Bichette's oldest son, Dante Jr., was a Yankees supplemental first-round Draft pick in 2011, after years of work with his father, who coached a youth team to an appearance in the 2005 Little League World Series and coached Dante Jr. The Rockies also talked with Jason Giambi, 41, who played for them from late 2009 through this past season and was mulling whether to retire and take a coaching job or continue his playing career. Weiss was hired as the Rockies' sixth manager last week, replacing Jim Tracy, who resigned in October after Colorado went 64-98, the worst record in the team's 19-year history. All rights reserved. He's worked in the Orlando, Fla., area with his sons' youth and high school teams, and with Draft prospects and young professionals.
