The Brewers have exercised their 2015 club option on manager Ron Roenicke, the team announced on Saturday. "I'm not too concerned about the defensive part," Roenicke said. "The defense part, he's had enough games there," Roenicke said "If he sits a week, he should be able to come out and just 'pick it' right away. He asked for, and was granted, more playing time, but that led to soreness in his right shoulder that Roenicke does not consider serious. "In picking up the option for 2015, it shows our confidence in having Ron lead this team on the field," general manager Doug Melvin said in a statement. "Last season was a difficult one, and Ron provided critical leadership with confidence and assurance that the Brewers can get back to the postseason." They were 74-88 in 2013, finishing in fourth place in a season marked by the doping suspension of outfielder Ryan Braun and injuries to key players including Braun, third baseman Aramis Ramirez and outfielder Corey Hart.
The Brewers may hold shortstop Jean Segura out of Cactus League games through Monday's off-day to allow his sore throwing shoulder time to heal, but he was well enough to take at-bats in a Minor League game Saturday.
