Called up after backup catcher Carlos Corporan suffered a concussion on Monday night against the Rangers, Stassi made his debut on Tuesday night. Stassi, along with fellow catcher Carlos Corporan, is on the seven-day concussion disabled list, but he doesn't know when he'll return. Stassi was called up to the majors on Tuesday after Astros backup catcher Carlos Corporan suffered a concussion Monday night against the Rangers on an Alex Rios foul tip that hit him in the forehead. With the bases loaded in the eighth inning at Rangers Ballpark, Stassi was hit in his nose and mouth after Rangers reliever Tanner Scheppers drilled Stassi with a fastball. “There was a reason he was a well-compensated draft pick coming out of Yuba City ,” Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said of Stassi. At that same time, Venezuelan righthander David Martinez had barely landed his improbable chance to play minor league ball in the United States. What's funny about the play was, the throw toward second by Rangers right-hander Jason Frasor was too high for infielder Elvis Andrus to handle while keeping in contact with the bag, and the ball went over his outstretched glove.
