Antoine Cason knew all week that his time had finally come. With a new role on top of that, Cason has been adjusting to his new life all season. Until Sunday, this season had been memorable for cornerback Antoine Cason only because he was playing less than he had in his previous five NFL seasons. But when rookie safety Tyrann Mathieu went down with a season-ending knee injury, the direction of Cason’s season changed in a matter of one play. The Cardinals lost Fitzgerald, who didn’t play in overtime. He had two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown in the fourth quarter that put the Cardinals in what they thought was command, and then another in overtime that led to the game-winning field goal. That changed when safety Tyrann Mathieu, who played cornerback in passing situations, was lost for the season Dec. 8 with a knee injury.
