    Before the Cavs opened their season Tuesday night, Gilbert said the guarantee ''was not the most brilliant thing I've ever done in my life.'' Gilbert also said in hindsight he would have handled James' situation differently. Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert now wishes he wouldn't have guaranteed his team would win an NBA title before LeBron James. When the subject turned to James, Gilbert said he would have done some things differently two years ago, most notably his guarantee. All people ask of a Cleveland owner is that he want to win and be willing to spend to do it. Randy Lerner earned acceptance in some quarters doing that and only that, while the Dolans continue to lose the good graces of fans because they can't or won't outspend their mistakes. It's an awfully low bar.
