• Celtics sign Faverani, Pressey

    The Boston Celtics on Monday signed center Vitor Faverani of Brazil and point guard Phil Pressey from Missouri. Also, Faverani was eligible for the 2009 NBA draft but was not selected. For now, though, there will largely only be speculation about what exactly the Celtics are getting in the 6-foot-11, 260-pound Faverani, whom they signed to a three-year deal Monday that's said to be worth $6 million. Pressey was a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award given to the best point guard in the nation last season while averaging 11.9 points and seven assists per game as a junior. Likewise, it's unclear how the Celtics might use him. A little background, first: He played last year for Valencia Basket Club of the Spanish ACB League, averaging 9.3 points and 4.6 rebounds in 17 minutes in 23 games.
