Former Giants MLB Chase Blackburn, a key member of two Super Bowl teams, has tweeted that he will be joining the Carolina Panthers this season. Blackburn started 19 games the past two seasons. According to an NFL source, Blackburn got a two-year deal from Carolina. The Panthers released linebacker James Anderson in a salary cap move, and Blackburn gives them depth there again in case either Beason or Davis don’t hold up physically. The former Giants linebacker just tweeted an apparent deal with the Panthers, after eight years in New York. That the new opportunity comes in Carolina is hardly a surprise, since the Panthers new GM is former Giants executive Dave Gettleman. An unrestricted free agent, he had already been replaced by the Giants when they signed free agent linebacker Dan Connor last week.
