The Philadelphia Eagles announced Friday that they're ending their 17-year training camp association with Lehigh University and are planning to hold training camp at the team facilities in Philadelphia in 2013. After 17 years, hundreds of practices, and thousands of fans trekking up the Northeast Extension, the Eagles will no longer be holding training camp at Lehigh University. Smolenski called it "an organizational decision," but if Kelly wanted to continue having camps at Lehigh, the team likely would have gone along. The Eagles release said they were the 20th team to stay at home for camp. I totally get the convenience aspect of having training camp at home, and I never bought much into the whole idea of training camp as some sort of male bonding experience out in the wilderness somewhere away from family and distractions. But the transition from Reid to new head coach Chip Kelly this year, along with the logistics of having to move the entire football operation to Bethlehem, Pa., for three weeks each summer, spurred the decision.
