Perhaps no one other than Victor Cruz has more vested interest in the Victor Cruz negotiations than Eli Manning. Giants quarterback Eli Manning hopes to see wide receiver Victor Cruz at the team’s offseason workouts soon, a hope that was either fueled or held in check depending on what media outlet Manning uses for his daily updates. Eli Manning was present at the same event as Cruz and Justin Tuck yesterday and believed Cruz was handling his contract negotiations in the correct manner. Manning also mentioned how Cruz not being there was helpful in cultivating other receivers, but it wasn’t as if he was taking a shot at Cruz for not being around. PFT reported last week that the next 7-10 days were seen as important for getting a long-term deal done with Cruz, although there was no word on exactly why that was the case since there was no meaningful deadline until the Giants could slash Cruz’s offer on June 17. Sources on both sides have been optimistic for weeks that a deal will be struck sooner than later probably in time for the Giants’ mandatory, full-team minicamp that begins on June 11, and possibly even in time for Cruz to return for some of the Giants’ organized team activity sessions that begin next week. A source later confirmed that, although the two sides continue their discussion with the hope of ironing out a long-term deal, nothing is imminent despite rumors via social media and one report suggesting the opposite early Tuesday.
