• Greg Schiano wants to scrap kickoffs

    You might have heard on Thursday that Bucs coach Greg Schiano was cited as the source of a proposal that would eliminate kickoffs in NFL games. We all know Goodell has been making a lot of noise about player safety in recent years and I’m glad to hear he’s at least listening to Schiano, who has a pretty good perspective on the dangers of kickoffs. In a September article in ESPN The Magazine, he said he envisioned kickoffs one day being eliminated. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, in a cover story in Timemagazine, said that among the ideas being discussed is a radical one from Schiano in which teams would be given the ball at their own 30-yard line after they score, rather than kicking off to the opponent. Instead, the Bucs coach was inspired by his personal experience with his former Rutgers player Eric LeGrand, who was critically injured and remains paralyzed after hurting his neck while covering a kickoff.
