With Kline and Washington added to the roster, the Patriots waived defensive lineman A.J. Francis. To make room for Kline, the Patriots waived defensive tackle A.J. Kline, 23, started the Patriots’ final 2013 preseason game at left guard. The Patriots promoted offensive lineman Josh Kline from their practice squad to the 53-player roster on Saturday, the club said. With Kline promoted to the 53-man roster, expect him to dress in Sunday's season-opener against the Buffalo Bills and serve in a backup role and potentially on the field-goal protection unit. Francis is a candidate to return to the practice squad should he clear waivers and have a desire to remain in New England. New England waived him on Monday but re-signed him to the practice squad on Wednesday.
