• Iglesias deal shifts organization's emphasis on defense

    Summary of 4 articles · Updated Aug 2, 2013
Iglesias is starting at third base Friday night against the Chicago White Sox. Iglesias's first hit in a Tigers uniform gave Detroit a 1-0 lead. The Tigers acquired Iglesias from Boston in a three-team trade this week at least in part to protect themselves against a possible suspension to Peralta. It's not that the Tigers have eschewed defense at shortstop as an organization. The Tigers swung and missed on developing young shortstops for close to a decade after their homegrown double-play duo of Ramon Santiago and Omar Infante struggled in Detroit in 2003 and prompted a trade for Carlos Guillen that winter.

    • Fister keeps dealing as Tigers take opener

The Tigers found out before the game that they would be without Miguel Cabrera. It turned out they wouldn't need much run support as Doug Fister mowed hitters down in Detroit's 2-1 win on Friday night at Comerica Park.
