    Mark Sanchez will reportedly get a second opinion on his right shoulder this week from Dr. James Andrews. It wasn’t perfect, but Smith looked better as the game went along and he showed an ability to make plays with both his arm and legs over the course of the afternoon. New York Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith is heading north this week to face the New England Patriots, hoping for a 2-0 start, and former starter Mark Sanchez is heading south to have his injured throwing shoulder examined by Dr. James Andrews. Ryan said it was a mutual decision between the organization and Sanchez to have him fly down to Birmingham to meet with Andrews, a renowned orthopedist. Sanchez, injured in the fourth quarter of the Jets’ third preseason game against the Giants, has not practiced since the injury and was ruled out of Sunday’s game earlier in the week. Both Ryan and GM John Idzik have said that the IR either the short-term or regular is not under consideration for Sanchez. But it's still not a permanent gig for the former West Virginia star, as Ryan declined to end the week-to-week competition. In reality, it's over.
