The Dodgers were hoping the surgery would be little more than a cleanup and Kemp would be ready to return in a matter of a few weeks. Crawford had Tommy John surgery on his left elbow in August, and the timetable for his return is believed to be similar to Kemp's. Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star center fielder Matt Kemp underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum and rotator cuff damage in his left shoulder Friday. During the 60-minute procedure at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles, Dr. Neal ElAttrache repaired a tear of the labrum in Kemp's shoulder and some minor damage to the rotator cuff, the team said. They also have Cuban defector Yasiel Puig, but he finished last season at Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and likely won't be ready by Opening Day.
