The deal with Dierker was finalized after a 90-minute meeting with owner Jim Crane and Dierker on Tuesday morning. Dierker had been part of the organization for more than 50 years before having a public fallout with the team in the offseason. “I’ll be doing some writing and will be a right-hand man for Reid, mostly in the area of public relations,” Dierker said. "He was the Houston Astros for so many people," Ryan said. “Larry is a huge part of our history,” Ryan said in a team statement. “I get the feeling that I will gravitate to the area of need in terms of trying to put the best foot forward for fans while we rebuild.”
