• Marc Trestman’s faith in Jay Cutler rewarded twice in Bears victory

But Trestman stuck with Cutler and was rewarded. Marc Trestman’s day wasn’t going well. Jay Cutler’s performance in the Bears’ 38-31 victory Sunday over the Browns muted the impact of national media reports of a fracture in the Bears’ locker room over coach Marc Trestman’s decision to bench red-hot Josh McCown in favor of Cutler. This obviously has less to do with McCown, who has been a godsend and the only reason the Bears are even in the playoff picture, and more to do with Cutler, who no question now is Trestman's guy from here on out. Cutler has just thrown his second pick of the game, this one run back 44 yards for a score. With Cutler leading the way, the offense converted 64 percent of third downs as the quarterback completed 22 passes for 265 yards, and three touchdowns for a passer rating of 102.2. Filling in for four outings prior to Sunday's game at Cleveland, McCown had thrown for 1,271 yards and nine touchdowns with only one interception for a passer rating as 109.8, which ranked as third in the NFL.
