• Markakis slated to undergo MRI on neck Monday

    Slated to be the team's starting right fielder, Markakis has played in at least 160 games in three of the last four seasons. Markakis was scratched from the Orioles lineup on March 3 with neck spasms, and had an MRI on Monday. Manager Buck Showalter said on Wednesday that he looked over at the calendar when Markakis went down, but said he's not ready to rule out Markakis for April 2 at the Tampa Bay Rays. "I think it's just some muscle tightness, but we'll definitely find out tomorrow," said Markakis who last played on March 1 and was scratched from Sunday's lineup after coming in with a neck spasm. "Everything else structurally is fine; some of the things you worry about with it weren't present," said manager Buck Showalter, who didn't think the injury would jeopardize Markakis' ability to be ready for Opening Day, on April 2 against the Rays at St. Petersburg. 2012 which slowed him in spring training last year, a broken bone in his right hand that required another procedure in June, and a broken left thumb when New York's CC Sabathia drilled him with a pitch in September.
