• Peterson doubtful; Gerhart out; Cole to IR

    Summary of 11 articles · Updated Dec 29, 2013
Peterson is doubtful with groin and foot injuries, and Gerhart again is out with a strained hamstring. Since then, the Vikings hadn't won a game without Peterson until two weeks ago, when they scored 48 points on the Philadelphia Eagles despite both Peterson and Toby Gerhart sitting on the bench. Running back Adrian Peterson will be doubtful for Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions, coach Leslie Frazier said, after the Vikings pulled Peterson in the second half of their 42-14 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals last Sunday. With backup running back Toby Gerhart also out for the game because of a strained hamstring, the Vikings will have to return to the lineup they used two weeks ago against the Philadelphia Eagles, starting Matt Asiata at running back and using Joe Banyard as a backup. Heading into Friday's announcement of the NFL's Pro Bowl rosters, it seemed like a good possibility that running back Adrian Peterson would be the Vikings' only representative. The Detroit Lions have given up the sixth most passing yards in the league, and as stout as the Lions have been against the run allowing the fourth fewest yards in the NFL the Vikings might have been better off trying to stress the Lions' secondary anyway.
