    Quarterback Alex Tanney has cleared waivers and agreed to return to the Cowboys as a member of the practice squad, a source said. Texas – For those upset the Dallas Cowboys cut quarterback Alex Tanney because they feared he would be claimed by another team. Coach Jason Garrett said he was pleased with Tanney's progress over the summer. In five preseason games Tanney completed 40 of 73 passes for 423 yards and a touchdown, with two interceptions. The Cowboys had hoped to re-sign Brandon Magee to the practice squad, but the linebacker was claimed by Cleveland. The hope all along was that he would slip through waivers so the team could bring him back to the practice squad to see if he could develop. “It looked like he kept his composure, moved around, kept his eyes up the field but just didn’t get into much of a rhythm throughout the football game.”
