I have some news!!! Metta World Peace June 25, 2013 Los Angeles Lakers forward Metta World Peace prepared his Twitter followers for a bombshell on Monday evening: Alas, the Untitled Peace/Owens Project will never see the light of day because, as Metta informed us Tuesday afternoon, it never actually existed: Owens has done the reality TV thing before, starring in the aptly titled “The T.O. Show.” Metta World Peace won't opt out of the final year of his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to his agent, Marc Cornstein. Instead, World Peace will receive the $7.7 million owed to him next season in the final season of the five-year deal signed with the Lakers in 2009. Other than World Peace, the only amnesty options for the Lakers would be Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol or Steve Blake. On one hand, relative to all things MWP, making a TV show with a 40-year-old Hall of Fame receiver who can't catch on in the NFL anymore makes about as much sense as anything else. Teams must inform the league of their plans to amnesty a player during a window from July 10-16, and the provision can be used only on a player who was signed before the new collective bargaining agreement was put in place in December 2011.
