Infielder Eric Chavez, who last season had an .845 OPS in 113 games for the Yankees, has signed a one-year $3 million deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to MLB.com. Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman’s assertion that the team’s search for a replacement at third base for Alex Rodriguez could drag for awhile appeared much more realistic with Wednesday’s news that two of the team’s top targets had signed elsewhere.
