• Report: Rockets deal Budinger to Wolves for 18th pick

    Summary of 15 articles · Updated Jun 27, 2012
We know why the Houston Rockets traded Chase Budinger to the Minnesota Timberwolves for the 18th pick in this week's NBA draft. The teams made a move to address both needs on Tuesday, just two days before the NBA draft: The Timberwolves acquired swingman Chase Budinger from the Rockets in exchange for the 18th overall pick in the draft. After swapping Chase Budinger for the 18th pick in the draft yesterday, Houston has now slid up two spots from No. 14 to No. 12. The Rockets already had acquired the No. 18 pick from the Minnesota Timberwolves for Chase Budinger and the draft rights to Lior Eliyahu. The Rockets now have the 14th, 16th and 18th selections in a draft that many scouts think is one of the deeper classes in years, a load of ammunition that could help them make a play for one of the stars who could be available, including Orlando center Dwight Howard or Atlanta forward Josh Smith. Although sources stressed that no deal is imminent, the Rockets have had substantive discussions about sending their other two first-round picks to the Sacramento Kings for the No. 5 pick. But it's believed that two top-10 picks, assuming Houston managed to complete trades with Sacramento and another team, seriously would pique the interest of new Magic general manager Rob Hennigan, who then could quickly start to follow the same sort of roster-building blueprint relied on by his previous employer in Oklahoma City.
