Free agent forward Caron Butler intends to sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder once he clears waivers on Saturday, sources told ESPN.com. The Los Angeles Clippers and Oklahoma City Thunder are going to fortify their championship runs with former All-Stars and talented swingmen, but don’t let anyone tell you that the addition of Danny Granger and Caron Butler are going to put anyone over the top. Heat beat writer Ira Winderman of the Miami Sun-Sentinel says Butler would have greater value on the Thunder, as the Heat’s rotation is getting tighter and tighter. There’s a reason that Butler and Granger were waived by their former teams, and you can’t just chalk it up to the Bucks and 76ers wanting to lose every potential game between now and when the NBA’s draft lottery hits in May. The former Connecticut star has averaged 15.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 764 regular-season games in 12 NBA seasons with Miami, the Los Angeles Lakers, Washington, Dallas, the Los Angeles Clippers and Milwaukee.
