• Report: Wizards Offered Bradley Beal In A Trade For Rudy Gay

    Summary of 3 articles · Updated Jan 14, 2013
John Wall and Bradley Beal played exactly one game together before rumors surfaced that Washington was considering a trade for Rudy Gay. Toss in the name of Wizards rookie Bradley Beal, a player that is on pace to hit as many three-pointers this month as Gay has made so far this year, heading to Memphis in return? It all makes sense. As good as Gay appears in theory, the Wizards look awful in practice. But would Washington really move their recent No. 3 pick? Gay is just an average perimeter shooter, and while he’s still only 26 years old, he might not be the best long-term fit next to the Wizards’ franchise player. The Commercial Appeal contends Beal was involved in the discussions as a possible centerpiece in a larger deal. Gay’s salary is by no means empty, but as the least crucial player in Memphis’ starting lineup, he holds an auspicious post as theoretically the most movable commodity. So it makes all kinds of basketball sense for the Grizzlies to hold on to their best wing player to make a run no matter how slim the odds at a title, but unfortunately NBA teams don’t have the advantage of operating solely within a framework of basketball logic.
