Hornacek played the first six of his 14 NBA seasons with the Suns. However, the Suns began negotiating a deal Sunday with Hornacek, who has maintained a home in the Phoenix area. The Suns will hold a press conference on Tuesday to introduce Hornacek. So on one level, the Suns’ hiring of former 1986 draft pick Jeff Hornacek as their new head coach did everything to fill that void. After being considered in the last year by Orlando, Philadelphia and Charlotte, Hornacek finally found the right fit with the Suns after spending the last 2½ seasons with the Jazz as an assistant under Tyrone Corbin. Hornacek has been taught by some of the best in the business as he played six and a half seasons under Hall of Fame coach Jerry Sloan in Utah and spent time with Suns Ring of Honor members Cotton Fitzsimmons and John MacLeod in Phoenix. But the Suns never have won an NBA title, and things have gone from mediocre to far worse the last couple of seasons.
