• Sabathia wins 200th as Yanks defeat Twins

    Summary of 4 articles · Updated Jul 4, 2013
Sabathia reached a career milestone on Wednesday, earning his 200th victory in the Yankees 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins. Sabathia threw a season-high 121 pitches in limiting the Twins to two runs on seven hits, becoming the 27th pitcher in Major League history to pick up his 200th victory before his 33rd birthday and just the eighth to do so since 1961. As is his custom against the Twins, Sabathia made it hold up, remaining undefeated in his last 12 regular-season and postseason outings against Minnesota dating back to Aug. New York's offense finally took advantage of Sabathia's outing in the sixth when they plated their only three runs of the game. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire paid the price for daring to pitch to Cano with runners at second and third bases with nobody out in the sixth. Max Scherzer worked into the seventh inning to become the first pitcher in 27 years to get off to a 13-0 start, leading the Detroit Tigers to a 6-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night.
