• Sanchez wins spot in Pirates' rotation

    Summary of 2 articles · Updated Mar 26, 2013
Sanchez, a left-hander, will move into the No. 4 spot in the rotation. He walked only one and gave up only three hits in his past two starts, however, firing eight shutout innings. The Pittsburgh Pirates told left-hander Jonathan Sanchez and third baseman Brandon Inge they will make the team's Opening Day roster. Sanchez's Major League contract is for $1,375,000. For the moment, "commitment" is the operative word, since neither was placed immediately on the 40-man roster moves that do not have to be made until the roster must be submitted prior to the season's first game, scheduled for Sunday at 8:05 p.m. ET, when Houston plays Texas.
