Mets general manager Sandy Alderson confirmed the Mets' interest in Lyon on Monday when he said that free agents Michael Bourn and Lyon are essentially the only two players the Mets could add before spring training. A second source stressed that a deal is not done, and Lyon is still talking to other teams. Lyon would become the latest in a flurry of late signings to bolster the team's bullpen. Lyon, 33, went a combined 4-2 with a 3.10 ERA in 67 relief appearances last season with the Houston Astros and Toronto Blue Jays. If he signs, it is likely to be the second big league free-agent contract the Mets hand out this winter. Bourn still appears a long shot, but the Mets remain engaged with agent Scott Boras. "Looking with what Frankie has been dealing with in the offseason as far as his elbow is concerned, I don't know that we could have a lot of confidence in where we are," Alderson said on SNY's Hot Stove program last week.
