The Dallas Mavericks have signed veteran guard Mike James to a 10-day contract. James played two games with the Mavericks' NBA Development League team this season. James played only one game with the Legends, but sources told ESPN.com that he quickly convinced the Mavericks that he can help address the team's lack of veteran leadership in the backcourt after the departure of Derek Fisher last month. The Mavericks moved fast in part because even though James was playing for their D-League affiliate, they held no exclusivity in terms of James' NBA rights. The deal announced Tuesday gives James a chance to play for his 11th NBA team in 11 seasons. He's also played for Miami, Boston, Detroit, Milwaukee, Houston, Minnesota, New Orleans and Washington.
