The Steelers added veteran depth to their offensive line when they signed offensive tackle Guy Whimper to a contract Monday. Whimper, who turns 30 this month, played in 31 games for the Jaguars the past two seasons and started 21. It’s unclear how the Steelers will line up at the tackle spots in 2013, but Whimper is ideally a right tackle and would only likely get a look on the left side if Pittsburgh were in a pinch. With Garvin and Whimper joining the roster, the Steelers waived defensive tackle Anthony Rashad White and center Ivory Wade. He could appeal to another looking for a short-term option on the left side, and it’s conceivable the Steelers could again call upon him if injuries were to strike. Kluwe announced the news on Twitter shortly after meeting with Vikings GM Rick Spielman, a move that had been expected ever since the team spent a fifth-round draft pick on punter Jeff Locke of UCLA.
