• Tribe recalls Gomez from Triple-A, designates Duncan

    Summary of 2 articles · Updated Aug 29, 2012
To clear room on the active roster for Gomez, the Indians designated utility man Shelley Duncan for assignment. Maine, who went 1-1 with a 4.79 ERA in three short stints with the Cubs this season, was assigned to Columbus and right-hander Jeanmar Gomez was recalled from the Triple-A team. The 32-year-old Duncan hit .203 with 11 homers and 31 RBIs in 81 games, mostly in left field, for Cleveland. The Indians do not want to be caught shorthanded down the stretch and, given the team's recent rotation troubles, that has been an ongoing issue throughout this season's second half.
