The Royals, continuing to add veteran depth for what they hope will be a run at a division title, signed outfielder Xavier Nady to a 2013 Minor League contract on Friday. Nady spent last season with Washington and San Francisco, hitting a combined .184 with four homers and 13 RBIs in 152 at-bats. With top prospect Wil Myers traded to Tampa Bay, the Royals' outfield shapes up as Alex Gordon in left, Lorenzo Cain in center and Jeff Francoeur in right. Xavier Nady and the Kansas City Royals have agreed to a minor league contract. Earlier this week, the Royals signed outfielder Willy Taveras, 30, as well as reliever pitchers Dan Wheeler and George Sherrill, both 35, to Minor League contracts. The 34-year-old outfielder is a .270 career hitter with 101 home runs and 406 RBIs during 11 seasons in the majors. "With our team being as young as it is in the Major Leagues, our Triple-A team this year is not going to the youthful look, the prospect waiting list that we've had the last two years," Picollo said.
